Nordic FHIR hackathon

Thomas Tveit Rosenlund Jun 20, 2025, 07:15 AM
Looks like we will be able to host a FHIR hackathon the day befor EHiN 10. november (preconference). I believe we have enough manpower from HL7 Norway, NHN, Felleskatalogen and maybe Oslo kommune to get this going. We talked about making these hackathon's nordic events so we might want to discuss how that is going to work. We have a planning meeting scheduled for tuesday 24 juni 1030-1130 if anyone is interested. Currently we have three viable use-cases for the hackathon: The patients measurement service (from NHN) that supports storage and finding vitalsigns Observations Nordic terminology server Municipality Core API (this might be difficult given the timeline). Any input on how to organize this is appreciated, as my experience regarding hosting this kind of events are none. Luckily the rest of the team, NHN and Felleskatalogen in particular, has a lot more experience with these kind of events.

Can we squeeze in IPA?
Mattias Colliander Jun 20, 2025, 08:42 AM
Thomas, that sounds amazing and very positive. As for things to hack, more ideas - since we will know much more about additional-base, bringing up how to model IPS, but also stuff like an updated combined Nordic profile will be relevant.
Thomas Tveit Rosenlund Jun 20, 2025, 09:19 AM
Great input, I will add them to the list.
Mattias Colliander Jun 24, 2025, 06:51 AM
Hey, @Thomas Tveit Rosenlund , I'm available to join the planning meeting today. Is it a good time? Not sure if I have much more than moral support to offer, though. :)
Thomas Tveit Rosenlund Jun 24, 2025, 06:59 AM
Thanks @Mattias Colliander I will forward the meeting. It is just preliminary planning to introduce the different partners to each other and hopefully agree on a ballpark for the event. You are welcome to join :+1:

The page for the Norwegian hackathon mentions pre-meetings. 1.2 Pre-meetings One and two weeks before the hackathon (october 27th and november 3rd 1000-1100) all participants and tracks leads meet digitaly to introduce the tracks, ask questions and discuss the content in the different tracks. 1.7 How to attend Attend the startup meeting the week before, monday 3rd of November from 0900-1100 (this will be a digital only meeting). @Thomas Tveit Rosenlund can you please clarify whether there are one or two pre-meetings? Also, would be nice to have these in a calendar that I could just import into my personal calendar...
Thomas Tveit Rosenlund Oct 13, 2025, 05:26 AM
Thank you for the feedback @Mikael Rinnetmäki . I can see there are some ambiguity here and will update the page at once. I will also add a calendar invite to the pre-meeting pages.
Mikael Rinnetmäki Oct 17, 2025, 12:44 PM
@Thomas Tveit Rosenlund not sure whether you noticed, I also added two pull requests to the repo of the IG.
Thomas Tveit Rosenlund Oct 19, 2025, 05:06 PM
Thanks @Mikael Rinnetmäki just merged them now. Forgot to update the second link to the registration page at Ehin.
Mikael Rinnetmäki Oct 27, 2025, 07:39 AM
@Thomas Tveit Rosenlund I can't make it to the first pre-meeting today. I hope at least the introductory part of the meeting is recorded and that the recording is shared on the pre-meetings page.
Thomas Tveit Rosenlund Oct 29, 2025, 02:04 PM
Still a couple of tickets left on the 2025 Norwegian Hackathon , so feel free to mark your attendance on the EHiN registration page

Fantastic! Have a lot of fun (and, well, do something useful as well)! My heart and soul is with you, even if the rest of me isn't. Expecting some after-action-reports later.
Kari Heinonen Nov 10, 2025, 10:52 AM
Or could  this be a "what happens in hackathon, stays in hackathon" thing ?

Any updates of the FHIR Hackathon in Helsinki January 19th? Venue and time of the day for the event. Further coordination with the HL7.fi event and the RHF welcome at 17:00?
Mikael Rinnetmäki Nov 28, 2025, 10:01 AM
We’ll probably start already at 9. People can join ehen they arrive, and we have a joint catch-up session at lunch time.
Mikael Rinnetmäki Nov 28, 2025, 10:02 AM
Venue is still being discussed. Strongest candidate is Kuntatalo where the HL7 Finland 30 years symposium will be. https://share.google/sXXYHeghnj700ybaD
Mikael Rinnetmäki Nov 28, 2025, 10:05 AM
There is some interest in extending at least part of the hackathon to Tuesday. Especially to suit the needs of EU projects xShare and MyHealthAtMyHands. Tuesday part of the hackathon might then be at Messukeskus, or not. We’ll see.
Mikael Rinnetmäki Nov 28, 2025, 10:06 AM
I’ve also heard there might be monetary prices for some tracks / challenges.

Looking forward to the next hackathon round, in Göteborg. The xShare participants in the careplan track was very happy for the arrangement og results, and have a wish to continue at the swedish hackathon. Will it be possible for a careplan track again in Göteborg, in particular work with computable clinical guidelines?
Jens Villadsen Feb 2, 2026, 09:44 PM
with my latest frankenstein adventure (in https://github.com/jkiddo/dhroxy ) danish attendees at cthons are in for a treat

Do you want to spend half a day at the next Nordic Health Data Hackathon (before Vitalis) to help me get a similar set of MCP tools implemented for the Finnish Kanta connection?

I'd say if we have confirmed participants, by all means let's keep the track and continue making progress!
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 07:04 AM
Sure. What date?
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 07:05 AM
We can call it fhroxy :sunglasses:
Thomas Tveit Rosenlund Feb 3, 2026, 07:29 AM
Sorry for beeing a noob, but some context would be great to better understand what that Frankenstein-project of yours actually does @Jens Villadsen . It sounds like a Proxy you could put between your FHIR client and the specific (proprietary?) API endpoints in Denmark, to translate the output from said endpoints into FHIR. Do you have a link to the API spec for the sundhed.dk original endpoints? My understanding of the danish sundhed.dk infrastructure is pretty limited, but I would like to learn more :working_on_it:
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 07:30 AM
Its Frankenstein because I had no API doc. Everything there is crafted from reverse engineering

Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 07:30 AM
It is a proxy
Thomas Tveit Rosenlund Feb 3, 2026, 07:53 AM
Jens Villadsen said : It is a proxy So, it only translates the FHIR Restful request into a request that sundhed.dk API can understand? Does this kind of service have a use-case, does it save some work for someone/some service?
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 08:10 AM
It has the sole purpose of showing how little effort is needed to make it standardized as well as catering for innovation which proprietary interfaces doesnt
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 08:10 AM
Thats the use case
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 08:11 AM
Which has already caught interest
Thomas Tveit Rosenlund Feb 3, 2026, 08:22 AM
Sounds like a great showcase for that purpose. At least for Danes. I guess it would be hard for Norwegians/Swedes/Finns to use this proxy because we don't have access to the sundhed.dk API's. But we could do what @Mikael Rinnetmäki suggests, and build a version for kanta/helsenorge/1177.
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 08:59 AM
Nhroxy, Shroxy, Fhroxy :sunglasses:
Vadim Peretokin Feb 3, 2026, 09:21 AM
I am interested in making the shroxy. Sounds sexy
Mikael Rinnetmäki Feb 3, 2026, 09:29 AM
Jens Villadsen said : Sure. What date? I'm guessing the main day for the hackathon will be Monday, May 4. Personally, I'm willing to travel in early on Sunday already. And hack then.
Pétur Þór Valdimarsson Feb 3, 2026, 09:30 AM
We did one at Chorus back in 2018, not sure what happened to it, but it’s definitely time for a redo here :)
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 09:58 AM
@Christopher Gyldenkærne is cooking clients for it :sunglasses:
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 10:17 AM
we can consider making a hroxy org on github - and have all sibling proxies there
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 10:17 AM
then on top - we can make them conform to IPA++ and finally have the NIPA - nordic IPA :D
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 10:20 AM
I got :robot: to make dhroxy by dumping all trafic as a HAR file from the browser (then anonymize it accordingly) and then have the AI to build the proxy based on the trafic. I imagine you nordic fellows can do the same.
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 10:21 AM
we're done waiting .... lets make some results
Christopher Gyldenkærne Feb 3, 2026, 12:58 PM
Jens Villadsen sagde : Christopher Gyldenkærne is cooking clients for it :sunglasses: In continuation of @Jens Kristians work : I've succesfully used mentioned dhroxy on my own health care data to build new webapp interfaces (in my case REACT) with some lab sample explainations / recommendations to all of my historic blood samples, medications, references and hospital visits. I'll try and share some of it in the coming days for you guys to get some inspiration from and crystalize what this is and could evolve into, with the right governance. I can not see how this is not a direct response to solving European Health Data Space for Denmark and possibly create new pathways for innovation around legacy EHR systems. It's not hard to imagine that we can now create über localized and fast infrastructure and information systems for clinicis, reserach initiatives and databases, agentic workflows, patient informed demographic profiles (smoking, drinking, excercise, diet) and run it up against device data for some exciting patient profiles based on the FHIR standard work that has been done for many years by a small group of people.
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 07:53 PM
bummer ... both hroxy and librehealth are taken as names ...
Christopher Gyldenkærne Feb 3, 2026, 08:19 PM
librehroxy?
Jens Villadsen Feb 3, 2026, 09:01 PM
Thats a bit of a tongue twister
Christopher Gyldenkærne Feb 3, 2026, 09:21 PM
yes - it will come to you the coming days

I'm trying to come up with some dull name like 'Open Nordic Health Data Initiative' ... I need help on this naming ...
Mattias Colliander Feb 5, 2026, 10:48 AM
Naming things again, are we? Yeah, good luck. Cough, Nordic McNordicface…
Grahame Grieve Feb 5, 2026, 10:58 AM
Nordic McNordicface…
Mikael Rinnetmäki Feb 5, 2026, 11:08 AM
To help with brainstorming, the hackathon will be on May the Fourth, so...
Mikael Rinnetmäki Feb 5, 2026, 11:08 AM
May the source be with you?
Christopher Gyldenkærne Feb 5, 2026, 11:16 AM
'Nordic Health Data Commons' 'Nordic EHDS FHIR initiative'
Mikael Rinnetmäki Feb 5, 2026, 01:44 PM
"Gimme my (damn) data!"
Jens Villadsen Feb 5, 2026, 01:47 PM
ye - I thought about something with the name Dave ( as a tribute to @Dave deBronkart ) - but I haven't found something good yet.
Jens Villadsen Feb 5, 2026, 01:49 PM
calling it something with helse would resonate in scandinavia but it means nothing in the uralic tongue of suomi... and it has no relation to EHDS ...
Mikael Rinnetmäki Feb 5, 2026, 01:53 PM
Let's continue the naming discussion here: #nordics > Naming the patient access proxy
Jens Villadsen Feb 5, 2026, 07:56 PM
Lets go crazy - https://github.com/c3po-initiative
Pétur Þór Valdimarsson Feb 6, 2026, 01:27 AM
Loving this so much! Carving out some time to join here :)
Jens Villadsen Feb 7, 2026, 07:04 PM
https://github.com/c3po-initiative/dhroxy - the danish proxy has now been transfered to the initiative
Jens Villadsen Feb 9, 2026, 04:26 PM
@Mattias Colliander you want an invitation as well to the github org?
Jens Villadsen Feb 10, 2026, 06:46 PM
.... so dear nordic fellows - ... the danes are in the lead currently ... with the proxy and the sample frontend :arm: You other peeps might be in the lead in the ongoing Olympics but danes lead in c3po :flag_denmark:
Thomas Tveit Rosenlund Feb 11, 2026, 07:30 AM
Looks wery good @Jens Villadsen :tada: If we where not so cought up in front of the television watching the very important winter olympic games, providing new gold medals every day, we might have a Nhroxy up an running already. Alas the games goes on for weeks rendering all Norwegians incapable of doing any productive work at the moment :skier:
Jens Villadsen Feb 14, 2026, 09:25 AM
@Thomas Tveit Rosenlund dont you have enough medals by now? c3po could need some norwegian love
Thomas Tveit Rosenlund Feb 18, 2026, 06:37 AM
I agree, it is starting to get kind of awkward.
Jens Villadsen Feb 18, 2026, 06:42 AM
At the time of this writing you are 3 silver and 3 bronze short from being in the lead in ALL medal types (leading gold by a margin of 5!)
Jens Villadsen Feb 18, 2026, 06:42 AM
It should be renamed to the Norwegian Winter Games...
Rutt Lindström Feb 18, 2026, 06:48 AM
Someone has to do it. Yesterday, we witnessed an Austrian nearly winning Nordic Combined. Didn't see any Danes trying to help.
Jens Villadsen Feb 18, 2026, 06:54 AM
Nahhh ... Danes were busy presenting the wonders of the c3po initiative to healthcare authorities which was a succes and an eye opener what can be achieved in a very short time. So while Danes might be missing out on metal in the Olympics, we're preparing to win the interoperability games :sunglasses:
